COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community Service & Leadership

Community service is at the heart of who I am—not only as an educator, but as a leader, volunteer, and member of my community. Serving others isn't something I simply do; it's a core part of who I am.

When I see a need, I naturally look for ways to help. Whether it's volunteering my time, organizing an event, coordinating a team, or bringing people together for a common purpose, I believe meaningful change begins when someone is willing to take the first step.

Throughout my career, I have been honored to coordinate and lead numerous school and community events that celebrate, support, and connect others. Most recently, I founded and continue to coordinate our school's annual Veterans Day Celebration, creating a meaningful tradition that honors local veterans while teaching children the importance of gratitude, service, and community. From family engagement nights and community service projects to fundraisers, celebrations, and volunteer initiatives, I enjoy creating experiences that bring people together and leave a lasting impact.

I believe leadership is about serving others, building relationships, and inspiring those around us to make a difference. I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that has given so much to me.

Below are just a few of the community service projects, volunteer experiences, and events that have helped shape both my personal and professional journey.

Veteran's Day

As a military mom and proud American, I was incredibly honored to receive approval to establish our school's annual Veterans Day Celebration. My goal was to create a meaningful tradition that honors our local veterans while introducing our youngest learners to the importance of patriotism, gratitude, service, and respect for those who have served our country.

Our inaugural celebration welcomed nearly 100 veterans and their families, and the overwhelming response has already generated excitement for next year's event. Students proudly honored their loved ones with a patriotic parade, heartfelt songs, a delicious breakfast, and special photo opportunities. It was a truly memorable day that brought together generations, strengthened community connections, and reminded us all of the sacrifices made by our nation's heroes.

Creating this event has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career, and I look forward to seeing it become a cherished tradition for years to come.

GIRL SCOUTS

Serving as a Girl Scout Leader for 15 years was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. During that time, I held a variety of leadership roles, earned multiple awards, and, most importantly, had the opportunity to inspire girls to become compassionate, confident, and service-minded leaders.

Community service was always at the heart of our troop. Together, we cared for local beaches and parks, supported military personnel, organized food and coat drives, volunteered with senior citizens, hosted Cookies, Cocoa & Carols at local nursing homes, created seasonal crafts for residents, and organized events for Girl Scouts and children throughout our community. One tradition I remain especially proud of is our annual fall leaf cleanup at a local senior community.

Girl Scouting strengthened my leadership, creativity, and commitment to service—qualities that continue to shape who I am as an educator and instructional coach. I cherished my years as both a Girl Scout and a leader, and I remain grateful for the lasting impact those experiences have had on my life and career.

I invite you to explore the slides below to learn more about my Girl Scout journey and the ways it has influenced my educational philosophy and leadership.

During the 2015/16 school year I coordinated a variety of fundraising events with my 8th grade Girl Scout troop to help them earn a one week long trip to Hollywood, California. One of the biggest fundraisers we hosted was a Pirate & Princesses in the Park event that was frequented by over 500 people. The event was complete with live music,  food, games, prizes and character appearances and we  raised over $3000.

YOUTH SPORTS

For more than 10 years, I have proudly volunteered with a variety of youth sports organizations in my community. Throughout those years, I have coordinated spirit rallies, organized fundraisers, designed promotional items, assisted with schedules, team celebrations, and awards, and donated both my time and resources to help create memorable experiences for young athletes and their families.

Giving back to my community has always been an important part of who I am. Whether in education or through volunteer service, I am passionate about supporting children, strengthening families, and helping create positive, connected communities. I believe that when we invest our time and talents in others, we make a lasting difference that extends far beyond the classroom.

MITTEN TREE

This community service project was one of my favorite initiatives to coordinate. Our Mitten Tree served as a community "give-and-take" station where individuals could donate or take hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens to help those in need during the winter months.

The project was an overwhelming success, with more than 300 winter items donated and distributed in its first year alone. Even more rewarding, the Mitten Tree became an annual tradition, continuing to "bloom" with warm winter essentials for years to come. It was a wonderful reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a lasting impact on a community.

BOOK FAIR

Inspired by my overwhelming love for books, books and more books along with the need for some funding in the Preschool Program where I taught. I helped to coordinate a book fair to raise money and help get us BOOKS!!

The theme of the book fair was Circus. My class kicked off the decorating for this event by creating a hallway filled with clowns. The book fair was a HUGE success.
